Tackling Food Insecurity in Our Own Backyard
This March, as we celebrate National Nutrition Month, we at Lakeshore Food Club reflect on our unwavering mission: to provide dignified access to nutritious food and essential resources for those facing food insecurity and hardship within our community.
45% of Mason County residents struggle with food insecurity, lacking the ability to provide a consistent, balanced diet to their families. Let’s think about that in another way – nearly half of our neighbors lack the means to meet a basic human need. We believe that food insecurity is a threat to our neighbors’ dignity, well-being, and ability to live a sustainable, healthy life. That’s why our Food Club mission goes beyond being simply a grocery store. Our vision extends — to be a beacon of hope, breaking the cycle of poverty, and fostering thriving communities.
At Lakeshore Food Club, we want to build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive; physically, emotionally, and socially. We hope to cultivate a sense of dignity and empower individuals to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
More Than Just a Food Club: Building a Support System
LFC goes beyond simply providing groceries. We recognize the needs of our Members are complex and uniquely different from one another. We meet our Members where they are, offering resources and community support, in addition to helping them tackle food insecurity. We do this in many ways:
Food Club: Our core service is a well-stocked grocery store brimming with fresh (often locally-sourced!) produce, pantry staples, and essential household items.
Lakeshore Food 4 Kids: The LF4K weekend backpack program, serving Ludington and West Shore ESD students, provides nutritious weekend food to ensure children do not suffer from food insecurity outside of school hours.
Food Club at Gateway 2 Success: This collaborative effort empowers students enrolled in the G2S Academy by providing access to healthy food options and valuable resources, paving the way for a brighter future.
Join Us in the Fight Against Food Insecurity
We believe that dignified access to nutritious food is not just a privilege for a select few, but a basic human right for all. Will you consider joining us on our mission to build a stronger, more resilient community?
Through volunteering, making a financial gift, or sharing information about LFC with your friends, every action you take makes a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Together, let's ensure that no one has to fight food insecurity alone. Visit our website at www.LakeshoreFoodClub.org to learn more about how you can make an impact in our community.
